Synopsis

Call Detail Records and GPS Devices

There are two types of cellular evidence, the data located on/in the device and the data located on the carrier’s servers. It is the data that is located on the carrier’s servers that we always neglect. This information is an extremely large part of the overall cellular phone picture. Some of the information covered in this online course will be: to learn what data is stored, where it is stored, how to receive it and how to present it. At the completion of the course students will be able to take data issued by the cellular carrier and place onto a map to detail where a cellular device was during a transmission, all in an online environment. This online course does not have a prerequisite and does contain a competency examination at the conclusion of the course.

GPS

This online course will cover the recovery of electronic data from GPS (Global Positioning System) devices. These devices hold information that can place an object at the scene of a crime, a path taken as well as a favorite location stored by the user. This data can help paint a clearer picture of the user and more importantly could solve an investigation. GPS is not only utilized in handheld devices but in vehicles as well. In this online course we will discuss hard wired devices as well and what can be harvested. The students will utilize several pieces of software to extract data from devices as well as process that data, placing it into mapping software. This online course does not have a prerequisite and does contain a competency examination at the conclusion of the course.
