This workshop introduces students to legal issues, information on mobile
service providers and requirements for searching mobile handsets. Hands-on
instruction covers the acquisition and analysis of GSM, CDMA and iDEN mobile
phones and SIM cards, using multiple types of software from Device Seizure to
the new DataPilot. Students will learn the basics of the Cellular Network and wil
have a foundation in the history of cellular technology.
This class is perfect for the Detective/Investigator and those just starting off in
the field of Mobile Forensics. There is plenty of hands on with SIM cards and
phones. New phones are constantly being added to the curriculum, so that the
students will be working with phones that are out in the street, now like the
Nokia 6682, Motorola RAZR, L7, iDEN i860, LG VX8100, Samsung A900, LG
VX4650 plus many more models.

Course learning outcomes / competencies
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
Describe the history, the legal issues and an overview of mobile technology.
Conduct cell phone examinations with various types of software.
Prepare mobile phone data for case presentation.
After successful completion of 32 hours of training, written examination and
practical exercise of a cellular handset utilizing the skills learned during the
workshop the student will receive a certificate of completion indicating the
passing of the course.
